Founder and creative director of Los Angeles-based contemporary women’s brands Black Halo and Black Halo EVE by Laurel Berman has been transforming the way women dress since 2002. Born in Spokane Washington and adopted at 9 days old she grew up with a tenacity for life; later graduating from Washington State University with a degree in Political Science. After a period of reflection she realized that a career in Law was not for her. Laurel discovered her true passion was in fashion and moved to San Francisco to attend The Academy of Fashion and then to Los Angeles to pursue her career as a designer. After years of designing for other companies, Laurel set out to launch her own brand that is made in Los Angeles.

Each style is created to capture the multifaceted beauty of femininity and power. Black Halo strays from the ordinary to achieve timeless design. This philosophy led Laurel to create the iconic “Jackie O” dress, as timeless and chic as its namesake.

When she isn’t following her passion, Laurel loves to hike, travel and explore no matter where she is in the world. As an avid people watcher, Laurel uses her natural surroundings, architecture, art, and music as inspiration. She balances her time in Los Angeles with her busy work schedule, caring for her feral warehouse cat Halo and enjoying time with her husband and business partner, Sean Pattison.
